Children from 3 to 5 years old may (but are not obliged to) attend nursery school. Even if such solution is not necessary it may bring many profits, both for children and their parents.
Admission of foreigners’ children is the same as in the case of children with Polish citizenship.
In most of cities and communes are both public (mostly free) and private nursery schools. The admission procedure may slightly differ because of the city or demographic situation (nowadays some public nursery schools suffer from lack of place for new children – some people emphasis the necessity of establishing new schools).
Enrollment begins 6 months before the start of school year in October. Enrolling children to nursery school during the school year may be difficult.
When enrolling a child to public nursery school take following steps:
- get the information which public nursery school matches your address of accommodation – in those places you will have priority. The information is available directly in the nursery schools and in Departments of Educations in Municipal Offices
- visit the nursery school and announce the will to enroll a child
- fill out the admission form (electronic or paper version – the first one is especially common in bigger cities)
- wait for decision (for details, ask in the office of the chosen nursery school)
When choosing private nursery school it is most advisable to pay a visit in person. The office shall provide all necessary information concerning the admission.
Admission requirements in public nursery schools are equal. In case when the number of application exceeds the places in nursery school, admission follows factors as: number of children in family, disabilities in family, number of parents, employment, the distance from the school or place of parents’ employment.
