When starting education at school foreigners’ children often encounter many factors making their start difficult. The most significant ones are different language and culture. Polish law provides a number of solutions helping to overcome those barriers. According to law on education foreign pupils are entitled to additional language courses, and additional classes from other subjects (not exceeding 5 hours a week). What is more, schools may provide cultural assistants for foreigners’ children. In some of the schools such actions brought desired, positive effects. Cultural assistants are often people from the cultural circle of the foreigners, they speak their language and are familiar with Polish culture enough to facilitate the communication between foreigners and school. Most of cultural assistants have experiences as migrants. It’s worth to remember about possibility of including cultural assistant into dialogue and integration process in the school attended by a child. Such help may be invaluable.
